How To Keep Spiders Out Of Your Home With Peppermint Oil

I hate, hate, HATE spiders. If I see one scurrying around my home it puts me on edge for days – or until it’s found and “disposed” of.

Luckily essential oils come to the rescue again and now I use peppermint oil to all but eradicate spiders from my home. Here’s what you do…

Simply fill a spray bottle with tap water and add 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil. Give it a smell to make sure the water smells minty, if not add a few more drops. Then you simply need to spray the peppermint water in the cracks and gaps where spiders can enter your home.

Spiders do not like peppermint oil. The strong smell will send them scurrying in the other direction and away from your home.

For an even more potent remedy add one or two drops of peppermint oil onto a cotton bud and place in the areas where spiders enter. It’s as simple as that!

If you want to try this for yourself then you can purchase a bottle of Plant Therapy Peppermint Oil for less than $7 on Amazon – and with free shipping if you spend $25 or more. Plus this spray bottle would be ideal for this use.

If you’d like to learn more things you can do and ways you can use essential oils, then get a copy of The Complete Book Of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy. It has over 600 recipes for your health, beauty and home and is my absolute favorite book on the topic.

P.S. Mice hate peppermint oil, too!

  1. spiders are creepy for sure but they only eat bugs, they don’t get into food and generally won’t bother you.

  2. Wonder if it works for ants?

  3. My nephew caught a brown recluse in a mason jar. He put one drop of peppermint oil on the spider. It ran around and around the jar really fast a few times then its legs drew up under it and it fell over dead. He then found a 2nd recluse a few minutes later and put it in the jar and it died within seconds. Then he found 3 ticks crawling in the driveway, droped those in and they died also but it took them about a minute. So, I’m wondering, would peppermint oil sprayed on my yard keep ticks away?
