How To Cut 3,000 Calories Per Week With Peppermint

Let me be clear here…

I’m not proposing peppermint oil is some miracle weight loss solution that will have you looking like (insert ridiculously beautiful Hollywood celebrity here) BUT peppermint oil has been found to reduce hunger, curb cravings and aid weight loss.

Here’s the facts…

Dr. Hirsch, author of Scentsational Weight Loss, suggests that our emotional state triggers our desires for food and that we can control these emotional states by inhaling certain scents.

Dr. Raudenbush took this theory and conducted an experiment using peppermint oil. Dr. Raudenbush’s study measured food consumption for participants exposed to the scent of peppermint oil versus a control group not exposed to the aroma.

The results revealed that those in the exposed condition consumed close to 3,000 calories fewer from saturated fat and sugar each week. This amounted to 23% fewer calories based on an 1,800 calorie daily diet for 7 days.

Whether peppermint oil will help curb your cravings and decrease your hunger I don’t know, but why not give it a go?

Pick up a bottle of peppermint oil, such as this Plant Therapy Peppermint Oil, on Amazon and then start diffusing it around your home to see if it makes a difference for you. Get yourself this Dew Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser to perfume your home with the beautiful peppermint aroma.

Read our recent article revealing how to diffuse essential oils around your home for information on how to do so.

If you spend a lot of time out of your home but would still like to test this out on yourself while you’re on the move, then get yourself an Aromatherapy Diffuser Necklace and place a few drops of peppermint oil on it.

  1. Plus it’s so darn tasty! Soothes the tummy and seems like it helps fend off the flu bug

  2. Would the same be true for peppermint scented candles?

  3. I am curious whether this works on people who have no sense of smell, particularly those with no olfactory bulbs. Is it simply a sensory perception or are there other properties of the peppermint oil which may account for the apparent weight loss?

  4. @Patsy: As long as the candle is made with 100% pure peppermint essential oil. It must be pure oil because most scents that are bought are synthetic and have little or no health benefits. The best way is to buy a bottle of pepperment oil, you can tell if it is unadulterated by the rule of thumb that it will list the latin name on the label. Aura Casia or the NOW brand are trustworthy among some others. If you want to go by the way of a candle, light the candle and let the wax melt a little bit, blow it out. Drop a few drops oil in, then relight candle.
    Best wishes!
